About the event

Join Bianca for a 90-minute online creative workshop, where we will explore the silvery, mystical beauty of Mugwort (Artemisia vulgaris) through the delicate medium of watercolor. We’ll work with different techniques such as wet-on-wet and wet-on-dry to bring our painting to life. We’ll also play with fine liners or pens to learn how to create mugwort portraits in different styles.

Preparation & Materials: As this is a fully virtual experience, please ensure your workspace is set up before we begin. You will need watercolor paper (cold-press recommended but not necessary), a basic palette including greens and earth tones, a pencil, and a mix of medium and small brushes. Additionally, have either a waterproof fine-liner pen, a fine sharpie, or a simple ball point pen.

Whether you are painting from a sunlit studio or your kitchen table, bring your curiosity and your own favorite supplies as we dive into the world of botanical art.

We hope you will join us for this 1.5-hour pre-gathering creative online class, led by Bianca Camacho. This event will be fun and will help you connect to this year's plant ally. It also helps us to offer our main gathering this July 31st through August 2nd. You are welcome to join this class, even if you can't make our main gathering.

Bianca Camacho

Bianca has spent many years immersed in the wellness world, holding a Master’s degree in nutrition, vast experience as a personal trainer, and over a decade in population health. Herbalism came to her, as it does for many, during a time of intense health challenges.

As a nutritionist, the concept of healing through food was not new, but learning how specific herbs support specific body systems was a powerful gateway that changed everything. It revealed a whole new way of nourishing the body, which naturally led to new ways of nourishing the spirit and seeing the world as more vibrant and animate than she was ever taught. As a seasoned artist and creative, falling in love with plants inevitably led Bianca to explore the various ways the natural world can be incorporated into art. Botanical illustration and block-printing have emerged as her favorite mediums for channeling the beauty of plants, though she believes there is no limit to what can be created.

Supporting Red Earth through Sponsorships and The Marketplace has been one of Bianca’s most rewarding endeavors. She is excited to share her love of art, health, and community with all who are interested, and she remains dedicated to making this gathering even more magical each year.
